10 useful travel tips during The high season
Let’s face
it-your holiday is the one time when you can really unwind and relax after a
year of hard work. You have earned this
time off and you want everything to go as smoothly as possible. To help you
achieve this, we are pleased to offer a few tips that will go a long way to
ensuring a great travel experience for you and your fellow travelers.
Book early
You really must
book early, do not procrastinate as your choice will diminish rapidly. Whether
you book online, or use a travel agent, it is important to book as far in
advance as possible to get the best deals on flights, hotels and rental cars at
your destination. During the holiday months, popular flights with attractive
discounts sell out early. The longer you wait, the more expensive your trip is
going to be!
Travel during
“Off-peak” times
Airports
tend to become more crowded during “peak” travel periods – early mornings and
late afternoons. Therefore, try to travel during off-peak times like
mid-morning through early afternoon, or later in the evening, instead.
Pack Smart
It makes
good sense to pack with security in mind. Do not pack, or take any prohibited
items, including weapons, explosives, or other seemingly harmless items(kids’
toys) that could be used as weapons at the airport. Remember to store liquids in
containers not greater than 100 ml, and place the containers in a transparent
re-sealable plastic bag. Pack your medicines, jewelry, or other valuables, in
your carry-on baggage.
ID your
baggage
Place
identification tags on the inside and outside of your baggage. Label your
laptop computer as well, in case you forget it at screening checkpoints.
Check in Early.
You can
check in for your flights online prior to departure. You can also select seat
assignments, as well as print boarding passes and your receipts.
Arrive
early at the airport
Arrive
early at the airport to avoid long lines. Think 60, 90 and 120. Arrive 60
minutes before your flight if you are not checking-in any luggage, 90 minutes
if you have luggage to check-in. For international flights, allow two hours.
Dress for success
Metal may look cool to you, but the security-screening machines hate it.
Avoid wearing shoes, clothing, jewelry and accessories that contain metal.
Don’t
forget your Photo ID.
For air travel, you must have your ID in hand at the security checkpoint
and during the boarding process. Make sure the name on your ID matches the name
on your boarding pass.
Stay
close to your departure gate.
Don’t slip away for shopping, when boarding begins. Board when your
group number, or row is called. Group or row numbers are printed on your
boarding pass.
Finally, enjoy your holiday!
After all, it’s time for your holiday and you’re supposed to relax and
enjoy it. If you packed wisely, checked in early, arrived early at the airport,
prepared yourself for a smooth security screening and boarded on time, you have
virtually eliminated most of the stress caused by travel procrastination.
I hope you have a great and nice trip and enjoy you holiday!
